An engaged learning platform is provided which will have delegates participating on an interactive level with each other and the facilitator. A safe learning environment is created whereby delegates will be introduced to useful interactivity tools such as tests, polls, breakouts and both audio and visual engagement activities. These tools will support the delivery of theory and understanding of the necessary principles of the course on a practical level. On registration, all relevant course material and information will be made available online. Risk management is a critical business activity that must be attended to by business leaders on an ongoing basis. Trainee accountants must have basic experience and exposure to risk management best practice. The course offers a practical approach in simulating an environment to build knowledge of the business, assessing business and industry related risks and the impact thereof on the audit approach. The course is designed for delegates who have prior university knowledge on auditing concepts surrounding internal control. The purpose of the course is to enable delegates to apply and extend this embedded knowledge to successfully demonstrate acceptable performance in all the competencies as defined below.

After attending the course, delegates will have gained a basic understanding on the competencies mentioned below, and must be able to apply the concepts and techniques in simple, uncomplicated situations or environments. Our ultimate goal is to provide the trainees the necessary training and practical exposure to proof a level 4 competency skill at a basic level for residual skills. This involves pre-course work, in-class discussions and exercises as well as evaluation and feedback. Delegates on the 2016 SAICA Competency skills SAICA Competency skills training programmes can join this session. Based on SAICAs latest CA Training Programme, a level four (4) sign-off is required at a basic level for all Residual Skills. The following competency skills will be assessed: 2016: SAICA Training Programme Prescribed competencies (Residual Skills) Task nr Task to be performed RM(R) 1.1 Evaluates strategic, operational, financial regulatory and information system risks, based on an understanding of the environment in which the entity / audit engagement operates, its strategies and management processes RM(R) 1.2 Identifies the business processes which are susceptible to fraud and, where applicable, documents the systems introduced by the business to mitigate the risk RM(R) 4.1 Documents the components of the entity audit engagements governance structure and its role, for example board of directors, audit committee, etc. RM(R) 4.2 Evaluates the corporate governance practices of an entity / audit engagement in relation to relevant legislation and practices Other course benefits include: - professional skills development (writing and reporting skills); - drafting recommendations which are reasonable and relevant; - time management; - critical and strategic thinking; - assisting with exam technique (research and analysis); and - individual feedback by an accredited SAICA Assessor. Trainees (delegates) are guaranteed a relevant and practical basic understanding of the risk and corporate environment.

This course consists of three parts: On scheduled course date: 1: Presentation of theory relating to the competency at hand – including demonstration of related techniques and principles via examples and case studies 2: Online assessment completed via our new online platform – www.myskillsportal.co.za. 3: Post-course integrated assignment (prepared on Excel and submitted electronically within 6 weeks after attending the training) The presentation is available in two formats: Option 1: A “live on-line presentation” – using our virtual training platform. No recording available after the session is completed. Option 2: Online e-learning modules (Pre-recorded online modules with the ability re-watch sessions)

Trainees (delegates) who require basic practical experience in identifying and documenting internal controls to address an entitys risk management profile and who are required to be competent in Risk management and Corporate Governance residual skills.

Delegates must have the following available on the course day: o Own computers (PC or laptop) with Excel loaded onto the machine o Proper internet connection (Wi-Fi or 3G) with sufficient data for the day Minimum connection speed required (use online page to test eg: https://www.speedtest.net/) • Upload speed: at least 3 Mbps • Download speed: at least 5 Mbps o Please note: We will be watching short YOUTUBE videos during the session to enhance the learning experience - therefore it is advised that you obtain permission from your IT department to gain access for the day. o USB headset (microphone, speakers) for each delegate is optional - however if an open office is used this is requirement o Webcam (external or built-in) for each delegate is not required as we do not use video functionality For the engagement activities and online tools, other devices such as the iPad and iPhone are not recommended. Please ensure that you are logged in 30 minutes prior to the start of the session in order to download relevant material and sort out any technical challenges that you might have with the aid of your IT department.
