The new King IV report has once again emphasised a leaders’ responsibility in terms of establishing an ethical culture. Corporate governance, for the purposes of King IV, is defined as the exercise of ethical and effective leadership by the governing body towards the achievement of an Ethical culture and good performance in the organisation. This implies that in order to have a thriving business, you need to be an effective leader and establish an ethical culture in your organisation. There is a saying that the fish rots from the head down, therefore it is imperative that you as a leader set the Ethical tone at the top. If you look at case studies on the Enron financial disaster you will note that an unethical culture underpinned each disastrous business decision that was made. Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do. Potter Stewart. CPD: 6.5 Hours verifiable CPD points This session will no longer be a one full day live training session. Instead we have broken down the full day session into 3 components. 3 Separate pre-recorded online sessions will be made available to you on successful registration. We know that being in a corporate roll, it is difficult to set aside one full day of training at the office, so we decided to make available the training sessions so you can watch in your own time, as you see fit and still enjoy the benefits of the training and its value-offering. We will keep track on your progress. After having watched all 3 pre-recorded sessions, and having completed the online multiple choice questionnaire, each delegate will be issued a CPD certificate.

The setting of an Ethical tone at the top has been emphasised by the King IV report, and it indicates that the management of ethics in organisations is not sufficient, unless and until it results in the establishment of an ethical culture. This course is designed to enable individuals to start the conversation about ethics and to become advocates for an ethical culture. Ethical and effective leaders are able to • Understand and manage their own and their team’s susceptibility to unethical behaviour • Set an ethical tone across the organization • Create psychological safety so that the workforce will speak truth to power about unethical conduct • Evaluate ethical risks • Actively engage the workforce in a conversation about ethical behaviour • Reward ethical behaviour The purpose of the course is not to train you the code of ethics but rather to enable you to become and ethical leader that cultivates ethical leaders. It is time we restore the highest set of ethical leadership in every business, which ultimately means it starts at the top, is the essence of the leadership culture, and is made real in actions and accountability.
