#CA2025(Relational Acumen: Communication Skills; Emotional Intelligence)

In this session we answer the question:

  • How observant am I to notice your needs and boundaries and how courteously do I respond and communicate?

    Work-Along Format
This format is designed to bridge the gap between learning and application, ensuring that the concepts we discuss are immediately put into practice. During the session, I will serve as your dedicated guide, facilitator, and coach, walking you through each step of the process.

    How the Work-Along Format Works
  • Real-Time Application: As we explore key concepts, you’ll have the opportunity to work on relevant tasks or exercises in real time. This hands-on approach will allow you to directly apply the material, gaining practical experience that reinforces your understanding.
  • Guided Support: Throughout the session, I’ll be there to support you, offering insights, answering questions, and providing feedback as you work. This ensures that you’re not only learning the material but also developing the skills needed to implement it confidently.
  • Collaborative Environment: You'll be working alongside fellow participants, fostering a sense of community and shared learning. This collaborative environment will encourage the exchange of ideas and best practices, enhancing your overall experience.

  • Do I know what triggers your emotions?
  • How do your emotions impact on my actions and decisions?
  • What type of a listener am I?

Scientist and inventor George Washington Carver said, “How far you go in life depends on your being tender
with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong.

  • Because someday in life you will have been all of these.
  • What Carver is describing is empathy.
  • How often have you found yourself in conflict or disagreement with others because you see things one way and they see them another?

Maybe you see things differently than your boss, colleagues, neighbours, children, parents, or spouse.

While your natural instinct might be to dismiss other people’s perspective or argue for your point of view, people with empathy work to see from others’ point of view, understand what they think, and feel how they feel.

Join me in this lesson on Empathy where I will be unpacking a new tool on empathy!

Empathic Listening: Seven qualities you'll likely need .

  • The Value of Listening: We typically listen at one of four levels
  • 7 Qualities of an empathic listener
  • What about compassion?
  • Types of empathy (leadership styles)
  • Empathy mapping (introducing the tool)

A person’s most useful asset is not the head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help.” – Unknown
