To successfully assess a trainee in terms of their proficiency as a prospective CA (SA) or AGA (SA) under the CA of the Future (formerly CA2025) Competency Framework, there are 5 key role players that will have a part to play in a trainee’s professional development.
A Reviewer who is the second role-player in the assessment process works most closely to a trainee on their day to day technical work assignments, and is therefore primed to be able to give feedback as the Reviewer is often on hand to witness a trainee’s daily work activity.
Reviewers give formative (weekly / monthly) feedback in the Learning Outcome Review (LOR) document and will need to know how to:
• Quality-check evidence to see if it meets SAICA’s documentation requirements,
• Accept or reject evidence, and
• Provide ratings feedback using decisions trees, where applicable.
The purpose of this training session is to help establish where you, as Reviewer, fit in, in the CA of the Future Assessment Process in the context of needing to assess trainees on their proficiency towards becoming CAs and AGAs (SA).
This session will also aim to show you how to give appropriate feedback in a Learning Outcome Review (LOR) on the Electronic Assessment Tool (EAT) online platform.
The following will be covered in the session which focuses on the Reviewer’s role in the assessment process of a trainee:
• An overview of the CA of the Future Assessment Process, including
o Its purpose and what the overall process of assessing a trainee looks like
o The categories and nature of competencies (learning outcomes) a trainee needs to demonstrate
• Identification of what assessment instruments require the involvement of the Reviewer, i.e., the LOR
• Explanation of how the Reviewer will complete the LOR, including:
o How to handle technical learning outcomes
o How to validate evidence based on SAICA’s documentation requirements
o When and how to accept / reject evidence for Professional Values and Attitudes (PVAs) related competencies
o How to provide an objective rating for evidence of [Enabling] Acumens related competencies
o Clarifying which learning outcomes do or don’t need a rating
• Guidance of Reviewers on the procedure for when there is a disagreement in rating or evidence is rejected
• How the Reviewer contributes to the Professional Development Summary (PDS) through the feedback given in the LOR
• What the timing deadlines and frequency of completion of the LOR are
• What the latest amendments are to the competencies / competency framework / EAT online platform
• Practical demonstration of how to give ratings in mock situations
