LLB, Certificate in Advanced Labour Law, accredited Commercial Mediator
Johan obtained his BA and LLB degrees at the University of Stellenbosch where after he completed his pupillage at the Cape Bar and was admitted as an advocate.
He decided to join the side bar and was subsequently admitted as an attorney, a notary and conveyancer.
In 2014 he was accredited as commercial mediator by the Africa Centre for Dispute Settlement at the University of Stellenbosch Business School and Conflict Dynamics.
He has more than 26 years’ experience in a wide field of mainly litigation work in several legal fields including labour law.
In the field of labour law his experience includes in the workplace dealing with disciplinary hearings both as chairperson and representative, representing individual employers and employees as well as trade unions before the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and several bargaining councils and handling cases in the Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court.
Johan was also involved in assisting a large trade union in the public sector in matters other than labour law, including commercial litigation and formal matters regarding internal administration and regulatory matters.
He has right of appearance in the High and Labour Courts and regularly conducts his own appearances.
