Company distributions can have significant tax consequences for companies, shareholders and intermediaries. While cash dividends are the most common form of distribution, many other transactions may unintentionally trigger dividends tax, capital gains tax or income tax consequences. If these transactions are not identified and treated correctly, they can result in unexpected tax liabilities and compliance risks.

This practical webinar explains the tax treatment of dividends and company distributions, using clear explanations and practical examples to simplify complex concepts. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the tax rules that apply to different types of company distributions and will learn how to identify tax risks, calculate the tax consequences and advise clients on the most tax-efficient methods of extracting profits from a company.

This webinar will fully explain s 7C and other provisions related to loans involving companies and trusts. Participants will be able to evaluate the impact of the rules and the planning opportunities that pertain to loan accounts. The webinar will also discuss loans made by trusts to others and some of the tax risks involved with loans to and from offshore trusts, using practical examples.

The webinar will cover the following:

  • Dividends tax and capital gains tax, including how they apply to:
  • Cash dividends
  • Dividends in specie
  • Returns of capital
  • Contributed tax capital
  • Income tax treatment of local dividends
  • Income tax treatment of foreign dividends
  • Deemed dividends arising from interest-free or low-interest loans
  • Practical examples illustrating the tax consequences of various company distributions
  • Planning opportunities and common pitfalls when extracting profits from a company

Tax advisors, trustees, taxpayers, accountants, business owners and managers, bookkeepers and anyone else who deals with companies and trusts and their donors, funders and beneficiaries.
