This session covers the legal and procedural aspects of deceased estate administration in South Africa. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on the step-by-step process from reporting a death to distributing assets. Key legal principles and requirements will be discussed to ensure compliant, efficient estate administration.


This session will cover the essential legal and procedural aspects of deceased estate administration in South Africa. Topics include the drafting and interpretation of wills and testaments, the rules of intestate succession, and the steps to be taken immediately after death. It will explain the appointment of the executor, how to report the estate to the Master of the High Court, and outline the entire administration process. Attendees will also learn how to prepare and submit the Liquidation and Distribution Account. Additional focus will be placed on the use of testamentary trusts, the Guardian’s Fund for minor beneficiaries, and how different marital regimes impact the estate.
