This practical course explains how South African tax residents and non-residents obtain a SARS Approval International Transfer (AIT) PIN to transfer funds from South Africa to another country.

The course follows the process from confirming the taxpayer’s residency and compliance status through completing the TCR01 application, uploading supporting documents, responding to SARS queries and presenting the approved PIN to the bank.

Special attention is given to non-residents who retain South African bank accounts, properties, investments, rental income or director’s fees.

After completing the course, participants should be able to:

  • Determine whether an AIT application is required
  • Distinguish between an AIT PIN and a general Good Standing PIN
  • Establish whether the applicant is correctly recorded as a non-resident
  • Determine whether the eFiling or manual application process applies
  • Complete the TCR01 AIT application correctly
  • Reconcile the transfer amount to its underlying sources
  • Identify the supporting documents SARS requires
  • Address tax compliance and residency discrepancies
  • Respond to additional SARS verification requests
  • Retrieve and provide the approved PIN to the bank; and
  • Understand the separate roles of SARS, SARB and the Authorised Dealer.

  • Tax practitioners
  • Accountants and auditors
  • Expatriate tax advisers
  • Financial advisers
  • Fiduciary and estate practitioners
  • Exchange-control consultants
  • Individuals who have ceased South African tax residence
  • Representatives assisting non-residents with South African assets.
