What is a case clinic?

A facilitated, case-based learning experience in which participants examine one realistic workplace challenge in depth, explore what may be happening beneath the surface, consider different perspectives and possible responses, and identify practical actions that could improve the situation.

Unlike a traditional webinar, the emphasis is not primarily on information-sharing. Participants are invited to examine, diagnose, discuss and respond.

About this Case Clinic:

How do I continue bringing my best without consistently operating beyond my capacity?

Through a realistic workplace case, participants will explore the relationship between strengths, contribution, capacity, boundaries and sustainable performance.

The session is not about doing less or avoiding responsibility. It is about developing the self-awareness and professional judgement to recognise:

  • what I naturally contribute
  • when a strength may be getting overused
  • what my current capacity realistically allows
  • when I need to communicate earlier, and
  • how I can remain dependable while continuing to function well.

Why this matters

CA2025 treats these issues as part of professional capability. Its Teamwork outcomes emphasise dependable contribution, honest communication about progress and supporting the team, while Self-management includes independent work, prioritisation and recognising resource constraints.

Its Emotional Intelligence outcomes go even further, explicitly referring to persistence, resilience, balance, recovery and communicating appropriate boundaries in pressured working environments.

The positive psychology and coaching foundation

The session draws primarily on positive psychology and workplace well-being, particularly the ideas of:

  • strengths use: recognising and intentionally applying what I naturally bring
  • strengths overuse: noticing when a strength that normally helps me begins creating unintended costs
  • self-awareness: understanding patterns in how I respond to demands
  • psychological resources: maintaining efficacy, hope, resilience and constructive relationships under pressure
  • sustainable performance: contributing effectively without making chronic overextension the normal way of working.

The Case Clinic is facilitated through a positive coaching approach. Participants are not simply told how to behave. They examine the situation, test their assumptions, consider different responses and decide what they would do.

This interactive Case Clinic will explore how trainees can:

  • contribute with confidence and professionalism in demanding work environments;
  • recognise the relationship between strengths, capacity and sustainable performance;
  • reflect on how they respond when demands begin to compete;
  • make thoughtful choices about communication, prioritisation and support;
  • remain dependable while protecting the quality and sustainability of their contribution.

Explore strengths, capacity, professional responsibility and sustainable contribution under pressure.

Participants will walk away with a practical tool:

  • Strengths – Capacity – Boundaries Check
    STRENGTHS
  • What am I bringing that adds value?
    CAPACITY
  • What can I realistically carry well right now?
    BOUNDARIES
  • What needs to be communicated, negotiated, shared or escalated?
    CONTRIBUTION

Where is it adding value?

By the end of the Case Clinic, participants should be better able to:

  • recognise the strengths they bring to their team
  • distinguish healthy contribution from chronic overextension
  • notice when a positive strength may be getting overused
  • recognise visible and invisible demands on their capacity
  • communicate workload or competing priorities earlier
  • ask for prioritisation without appearing unwilling to contribute
  • support colleagues without automatically becoming responsible for solving everything
  • use appropriate boundaries while remaining professional and dependable
  • reflect on what helps them function well under pressure.
