To successfully assess a trainee in terms of their proficiency as a prospective CA (SA) or AGA (SA) under the CA of the Future (formerly CA2025) Competency Framework, there are 5 key role players that will have a part to play in a trainee’s professional development.

An Evaluator / Assessor is less directly involved in a trainee’s day to day work activity but plays a mentorship role and is fundamentally concerned with a trainee’s longer-term development towards final proficiency levels. Evaluators / Assessors offer summative assessment feedback in the Professional Development Summary (PDS) document.

A SAICA Evaluator / Assessor plays arguably the biggest role in a SAICA trainee’s progression to becoming a CA (SA) or AGA (SA) by:

  • Tracking a trainee’s development across an assessment (PDS) cycle
  • Understanding their current level of professional development, and
  • Correcting / remediating a trainee’s development through the design of a development plan to address development deficiencies

The purpose of this training session is to help establish where you, as Evaluator / Assessor, fit in, in the CA of the Future Assessment Process in the context of needing to assess trainees on their proficiency towards becoming CAs and AGAs (SA).

This session will practically demonstrate how to give appropriate feedback in a Professional Development Summary (PDS) document on the Electronic Assessment Tool (EAT) online platform.

The following will be covered in the session which focuses on the Evaluator / Assessor’s role in the assessment process of a trainee:
