To successfully assess a trainee in terms of their proficiency as a prospective CA (SA) or AGA (SA) under the CA of the Future (formerly CA2025) Competency Framework, there are 5 key role players that will have a part to play in a trainee’s professional development.

Trainees are to prepare formative assessment forms called Learning Outcome Reviews, i.e., LORs (weekly / monthly / two-monthly) and will need to know how:

  • Document technical and professional learning outcome evidence
  • To quality-check evidence to see if it meets SAICA’s documentation requirements,
  • Evidence will be accepted / rejected, and
  • Provide ratings feedback using decisions trees, where applicable.

Trainees are also required to document a reflection of how they had performed over an assessment cycle in the Professional Development Summary (PDS) at the end of every PDS cycle.

The purpose of this training session is to help establish where you, as Trainee, fit in, in the CA of the Future Assessment Process in the context of needing to be assessed on your proficiency towards becoming CAs and AGAs (SA).

This session will practically demonstrate how to document evidence in an LOR and how to reflect in a PDS document respectively on the Electronic Assessment Tool (EAT) online platform.

The following will be covered in the session which focuses on the Trainee in the assessment process:

  • Explanation of how the Trainee will complete the LOR, including:
  • How to handle / document technical learning outcomes
  • How to validate evidence based on SAICA’s documentation requirements
  • How to document evidence for Professional Values and Attitudes (PVAs) related competencies and an explanation of how they will be accepted / rejected by Reviewers
  • How to document and provide an objective rating for evidence of [Enabling] Acumens related competencies through a thorough explanation of the decision trees
  • A discussion of how the Trainee is to complete their reflection in the PDS document for all the following sections:
  • LOR Feedback Summary
  • Academic Record

  • Development Plan

  • Audit managers
